MOSCOW, 22 December (BelTA) - The tourism development concept within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), approved at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on 21 December, outlines priority areas for the industry’s growth as well as joint measures to expand cooperation in this sector within the EAEU, BelTA learned from the press service of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).
According to EEC Board Member (Minister) for Economy and Financial Policy Bakyt Sultanov, the strategic document lays out specific measures to boost mutual tourist travel. “The plans include the development of new Eurasian tourist routes that will connect our countries with common ‘threads of experience’. A dedicated tourism section will be created on the Union’s portal, presenting information about the tourism potential of the EAEU member states,” the EEC minister said.
Data from the World Travel & Tourism Council indicates that in 2024, tourism accounted for about 10% of global GDP, creating one in ten jobs on the planet. International experts note that the industry has not only recovered from the pandemic overall but has also exceeded pre-crisis levels in a number of regions.
The EAEU countries possess significant growth potential, as the current average share of tourism in the EAEU states’ GDP is only about 3%. All countries are already actively working at the national level, adopting strategies aimed at enhancing tourist safety, improving service quality, creating a comfortable environment, training personnel, and attracting investment into the sector.
“The implementation of the concept should help unlock the tourism potential of each country, increase mutual tourist flows, and boost the sector’s contribution to the economy. I believe this will strengthen the competitive position of the tourism sector across the entire Union space,” Bakyt Sultanov concluded.
