Defense minister describes Belarus-Russia relations as great example of equal alliance

MINSK, 24 May (BelTA) – Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin held a working meeting with his Russian counterpart Andrei Belousov in Minsk on 24 May, BelTA learned from the Defense Ministry of Belarus.

The Belarusian defense minister noted that the meeting is another testimony to strong fraternal ties and strategic partnership between the two countries. “This is especially important amid a very difficult military and political situation unfolding around our states,” Viktor Khrenin remarked.

Speaking about cooperation between Belarus and Russia, Viktor Khrenin emphasized that it is a great example of an equal and mutually beneficial alliance in the post-Soviet space.

Andrei Belousov noted that Belarus is a steadfast ally and reliable partner for Russia, and thanked his Belarusian counterpart for hospitality. “I am glad to meet you in person. Thank you for the warm welcome and traditional Belarusian hospitality. The Republic of Belarus has been and remains our closest neighbor, a loyal ally and a reliable partner,” Andrei Belousov emphasized.

The Russian defense minister highlighted the urgency behind building closer ties in order to promptly respond to military and political developments and take additional measures to maintain security in the Belarus-Russia Union State.

The defense ministers discussed current issues of bilateral military and military-technical cooperation taking into account the ongoing military and political developments.
