MINSK, 30 November (BelTA) – The current stage of the Ukraine conflict can be called a period of strategic patience, when the parties to the conflict are waiting to see who will lose their cool first and inflict unacceptable damage on the enemy, Russian military observer of the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, retired colonel Viktor Baranets said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“The West supplies F-16 fighter aircraft to Kiev. Okay, some of them will be in Khmelnytsky Oblast. We have already struck there with the Kinzhals [Russian hypersonic missile], and burned some things down. But what if the 'jump' airfields are in Poland or Romania? It would be perfectly logical to destroy them [F-16 fighter aircraft] where they are stationed, and not when they go into Ukrainian airspace, where our fighter jets will rush towards them,” said Viktor Baranets.
The military observer noted that in this case, it would be much more difficult to shoot down the F-16 fighter aircraft. For this, air defense systems would have to be used, among other things. “Wouldn't it make more sense to immediately hit the Polish or Romanian airfields where these F-16s are located? There is such a temptation, and I understand it very well as a military man. But I have to take one important thing into consideration. Now is the time for strategic patience. Who will be the first to rush into action, the first to inflict unacceptable damage on the enemy?” he remarked.
Viktor Baranets also called the current stage of the Ukraine conflict “a moment of waiting for answers.” “We have used the Oreshnik, but they continue to strike. We will certainly use the Oreshnik again. I will just drop a clue: the Oreshnik is not the only new weapon that we have. There are several types of non-nuclear weapons that will be enough to calm the aggressor down,” the military observer noted.
