CT scanners for Belarusian hospitals as part of COVID-19 response

BREST, 30 December (BelTA) – In the run-up to the New Year, three hospitals of Brest Oblast received computer tomography scanners, BelTA learned from the main healthcare department of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee.

The modern medical imaging equipment from Siemens was delivered to the hospitals of Kobrin, Bereza, and Stolin on 30 December. The scanners were bought by the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry within the framework of the COVID-19 response efforts. One CT scanner costs Br722,500, the funding was allocated from the state budget. Baranovichi Cancer Hospital and Pinsk Central Hospital are set to get new CT scanners soon.

Stolin District Central Hospital intends to install the equipment at the beginning of January. The project to prepare the CT room and install the CT scanner received Br256,000 from the local budget.

The population of Stolin District is 72,000 people. The hospital needed the CT scanner, because it had to take its patients to Pinsk and Luninets for a CT scan, chief physician of the hospital Viktor Moisyuk said.

According to him, during the pandemic, the CT scans of lungs have become especially important, as they help to diagnose the coronavirus. Computer tomography helps scan the whole organism and confirm various diagnoses. The CT room in Stolin District Central Hospital is expected to start operating soon.
