CSTO's Central Asia rapid response units to stage exercise to eliminate bandit groups

MOSCOW, 26 August (BelTA) – A joint exercise involving collective rapid response forces of the Central Asia collective security region of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will take place in the exercise area Edelveis in Kyrgyzstan on 7-9 September, BelTA has learned.

The Rubezh 2021 exercise [Frontier] will focus on eliminating illegal armed gangs, which have invaded a CSTO member state. The main purpose of the exercise is to improve practical skills of officials of command and control bodies of the CSTO collective forces as they organize combat actions and manage their subordinate units. The exercise will also improve cohesion of the Central Asia collective security region's rapid response forces in the course of carrying out a joint operation.

A conference for officers of the central command and the staff of the Central Asia collective rapid response forces will be held prior to the exercise to make plans and preparations for the joint operation.

Military contingents and alarm response forces of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, the CSTO Joint Staff, the CSTO Secretariat, special operations units and forces of law enforcement agencies, emergency response agencies, and the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan will take part in the exercise.

The collective rapid response forces of the Central Asia collective security region of the Collective Security Treaty Organization are meant to take care of military security of the CSTO member states, including through participation in repulsing an external military aggression and through participation in joint counterterrorist operations. The composition and forces and assets available to this division of the CSTO rapid response forces may vary depending on the threat. The division includes about 5,000 personnel. The national contingents of the collective rapid response forces of the Central Asia collective security region are made of army units, rapid response units of the armed forces and other agencies that practice military service. They are equipped with high-mobility military vehicles, compatible weapon and communication systems and are accompanied by combat support, rear support, and technical support units.
