‘Completely losing against Lukashenko’. What statement by Belarusian leader irritated Zelensky?

MINSK, 23 November (BelTA) – Vladimir Zelensky is losing completely to Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, considering what kind of country Belarus is and what Ukraine has been turned into, member of the Another Ukraine movement, former member of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada Spiridon Kilinkarov said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
He commented on Zelensky’s sharp reaction to Lukashenko’s recent invitation for Ukrainians to come to Belarus. According to Spiridon Kilinkarov, such a reaction is obvious and understandable.

“Zelensky follows the course of European policy, which differs from, for example, Belarus’ policy toward Ukraine. What is the problem with this? Citizens of your country are offered the same rights and conditions for living in a peaceful neighboring state, which invites your citizens and grants them rights to study, kindergarten, school, medical care… What’s wrong with that?” Spiridon Kilinkarov asked rhetorically.

In his view, Lukashenko’s statement irritated Zelensky also because Belarus and Ukraine have often been compared. “There were two paths. [In Ukraine] they said: we must defend our sovereignty and independence, otherwise we will become like Belarus. Then you ask: what kind of Belarus? Let’s compare. Belarus is a peaceful country that develops, builds, trades, where people have clear skies overhead, and their relatives are not seized in the streets and sent to die. And Ukraine? Ukrainians are not foolish, they understand everything. There is a president of one country who did not allow a Maidan, and the country went down a completely different path,” the former deputy stressed.

At the same time, Ukraine, a country of “two Maidans”, has sunk into corruption and war. “Certainly, for Zelensky this is an irritant. Compared to Lukashenko, he is clearly losing outright. If we recall the times before the war, Lukashenko was one of the most popular politicians in Ukraine. Ukrainians, visiting your country, saw everything with their own eyes. They had something to compare with. That is why, for Zelensky, this is naturally an irritant,” the expert concluded.
