CIS human rights commission reviews agenda for 2026

MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – The first working meeting to discuss the activities of the CIS Human Rights Commission was held under the chairmanship of Belarusian representative Yevgeniya Paramonova. This year, the chairmanship of the commission has been passed to the Belarusian side, in accordance with the established rotation process, BelTA learned from the CIS Executive Committee.

The event, held in videoconference format, was attended by commission members from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia, authorized representatives of the commission members’ offices from Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as staff of the commission’s Secretariat and the CIS Executive Committee.

Participants reviewed the commission’s work plan for 2026, updated by the Secretariat based on proposals from member states. Earlier, on 5 December 2025, this document was adopted as the basis at the fifth meeting of the commission. The key themes and planned activities are closely linked to the Year of Health Protection, which will be observed in the Commonwealth in 2026 by decision of the CIS Heads of State Council on 14 October 2022.

Those present also discussed organizational issues related to implementing the planned activities and agreed on the need for close coordination to ensure a high level of organization and effectiveness.

In addition, attending the meeting was Irina Kostevich, Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives on Labor and Social Issues.
