MINSK, 4 September (BelTA) - A meeting of the expert group to finalize and approve the CIS draft framework for information policy in border security took place on 3-4 September, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, the Border Troops Commanders Council, the Coordination Service of the Border Troops Commanders Council, and the CIS Executive Committee.
During the meeting, the experts refined the document, taking into account comments and proposals received from the member states, and approved it by a majority vote. Plans are in place to submit the document in accordance with established procedures for consideration by the CIS Heads of State Council.
Although several CIS treaties contain legal aspects defining common approaches for member states in shaping the CIS information space, as well as regulating the exchange of information on the protection of external borders, they lack provisions governing information policy specifically in border security.
The need to prepare this framework was driven by new realities in the CIS information landscape, including challenges and threats in the information domain, the rapid development of information and communication technologies, their impact on information infrastructure and environment, and the overarching goal of maintaining security and stability at the borders.
The adoption of this document will enable countries to develop and adjust their information policies across the CIS to support the implementation of a coordinated border policy.
