CEC: 951 national observers accredited at territorial commissions in belarus

MINSK, 23 December (BelTA) - 951 national observers have already been accredited at territorial commissions, Chairman of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko said at a CEC meeting in Minsk on 23 December, BelTA learned.

A total of 5,325 polling stations had been set up in the country, within the timeframe established by law, the CEC chief said. “A total of 5,325 precinct commissions will be set up no later than 26 December,”Igor Karpenko noted.

The Central Election Commission is in session today. The main item on the agenda is the registration of candidates for president of the Republic of Belarus. The CEC is also set to consider the form and text of the ballot paper, the organization of voting of certain categories of citizens, and the drawing of lots to determine the date and time slots of the appearance of the candidates on state-run television and radio.

“Today we will deal with the registration of candidates for the president of the Republic of Belarus. From 1 January 2025 the election process will move to the stage of campaigning. The executive committees have determined, within their remits, the places for mass events, premises for meetings with voters and places for campaign materials. The relevant decisions have been published on the websites of local authorities and in print media,” Igor Karpenko added.

The presidential election in Belarus is scheduled for 26 January 2025.
