MINSK, 5 November (BelTA) – An act of armed aggression against the Union State of Belarus and Russia and member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) shall be construed as an attack against Belarus according to the bill on amending the laws on ensuring military security and defense, which passed the second reading in the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus on 5 November, BelTA has learned.

The bill amends and expands three laws: “On the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus”, “On defense”, and “On the state of war” to bring provisions of these documents into compliance with the updated Military Doctrine of Belarus.

In particular, the bill stipulates that an act of armed aggression on the part of some state or a coalition of states against the Union State of Belarus and Russia or a CSTO member state will be seen as an attack against the Republic of Belarus, noted Chairman of the National Security Commission of the House of Representatives Gennady Lepeshko.

As for other innovations, the bill provides for aligning the terminology of these laws with provisions of the Military Doctrine. The authority of the president of the Republic of Belarus, of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus, of the Defense Ministry and the General Staff of the Armed Forces in the field of defense will be brought into compliance with the Military Doctrine, the MP pointed out.

The bill provides for clarifying and specifying tasks of the Armed Forces, functions of the General Staff of the Armed Forces in ensuring the military security and armed defense of Belarus.

The list of military threats, which are grounds for declaring the state of martial law in the territory of the republic, will be brought into compliance with the Military Doctrine by the bill.
