Best works of international social poster contest to be exhibited in Minsk

MINSK, 26 March (BelTA) – The best works of the international social poster contest “Now!” will be exhibited in the National Center for Contemporary Arts in Minsk on 3 April, project manager Tatyana Kupava said at a press conference in Minsk on 26 March, BelTA has learned.

“We immediately screened out the works which did not comply with the technical requirements and the topic. All in all, 250 posters were selected for the first round. We shortlisted 60 works for the second round, three of which became the winners. The 100 best posters will be exhibited in the National Center for Contemporary Arts on 3 April. The exhibition will feature the works from the shortlist and works of designers who represent the participating countries,” Tatyana Kupava noted.

The contest brought together artists from 24 countries. Many of them are famous recognized professionals who agreed to the non-commercial use of their works. The posters were assessed by an international jury.

The first and the second prizes were won by Polish designers, with the third prize holder being a contestant from Belarus. “The winning poster depicts a ladder made from hands. I think the message is the following: if we give each other a helping hand we will build a ladder for those who need peace and future. The second prize was taken by the poster showing a person who is scattering hearts, which refers to the need to sow love. The poster that won the third prize features a tear-off ad with the word “Help!” and tear-off words “Ok” on a wall. The work is very meaningful and stands out due to its simplicity and expressiveness,” director of the National Center for Contemporary Arts Sergei Krishtapovich said.

The award ceremony will also take place on 3 April. Foreign designers whose works will be displayed at the exhibition will receive their certificates via Belarusian embassies in participating countries. “Certificates are usually sent via e-mail but we decided against it. The embassies will call in the artists and hand them certificates, which will raise the profile of the contest and the hosting country,” Tatyana Kupava believes.

The international social poster contest “Now!” was launched to shape an active life position in the youth and the society in general, to develop and facilitate youth art via social poster dedicated to charity. The goal of the contest is to create a series of posters that will promote active life position, creative approach to social action. The posters are designed to advertise volunteering and charitable activity via raising awareness of positive trends, events, and phenomena in these areas.
