Belarusian, Russian air force units to begin joint standby alert at Belarusian airfield in summer

MINSK, 15 April (BelTA) – Belarusian and Russian army units will be deployed at a Belarusian airfield in summer in order to carry out air defense duties together. Chief of the Air Force and Air Defense Command of the Armed Forces of Belarus, Major-General Igor Golub made the statement within the framework of the CIS Air Defense Coordinating Committee, TASS reports.

Igor Golub remarked that in late 2020 the Belarusian and Russian defense ministers authorized an action plan of air defense duty forces of the Belarusian-Russian joint regional air defense system.

In order to implement the action plan in practice units of the Air Force and Air Defense Command of the Republic of Belarus and the Aerospace Forces of the Russian Federation will be stationed at a Belarusian airfield in order to carry out air defense duties together, the officer said.

Igor Golub also remarked that Belarusian military regularly take part in joint air defense exercises. In 2021 Belarusian Air Force and Air Defense units are supposed to take part in tactical exercises in the exercise area Ashuluk in Russia's Astrakhan Oblast and in the joint exercise Boyevoye Sodruzhestvo 2021 [Combat Commonwealth].
