Belarusian enterprises receive government quality excellence awards

MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) – Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko presented awards to winners of the 2020 government quality excellence contest on 8 June, BelTA has learned.

During the award ceremony Roman Golovchenko said: “Every year the quality excellence award is bestowed upon the country's best organizations in recognition of considerable accomplishments in the area of quality and competitive ability of products and services, in recognition of introduction of innovative technologies and achievements in the sphere of management.”

In his words, only the companies, which strategy and tactics relies on quality in every aspect of business, will be able to stay in the lead nowadays. “The modern world requires quality standards to be introduced absolutely at every stage of the product's lifecycle. I am glad that there are Belarusian enterprises that excel in the area of quality. The winners master modern principles and ideas, which are embodied in the government's award model,” the prime minister noted.

Roman Golovchenko pointed out that the winners successfully penetrate new target markets, develop export, and fill the notion of Belarusian quality with a new meaning. “Export and export diversification are an absolute priority in this matter. The organizations that will be awarded represent examples of how assigned tasks can be tackled successfully. Today's winners export over 50% of their output. The creation of high-tech products that are competitive on the world market is naturally impossible without innovative technologies, high-performance and energy-saving equipment. This is why dynamically developing enterprises that operate in the country's power engineering industry are among the laureates,” Roman Golovchenko explained.

Roman Golovchenko stressed that small and medium private companies and the private sector as a whole makes a significant contribution to the development of the national economy. “The involvement of these organizations – small, medium, and large ones – in the processes of business improvement and the introduction of modern management systems is a substantial tool for organizing and improving entrepreneurship activity,” he added.

Belarus is famed far and wide for the high quality of Belarusian foods. “The leading enterprises that embrace the requirements that enable access to the most complicated, competitive, and attractive food markets demonstrate flexibility. They foresee and promptly respond to changes of the internal environment and the external one. This is why today we praise food quality accomplishments of cutting-edge Belarusian enterprises,” the head of government said.

In his opinion, the rising quality of Belarusian products contributes not only to higher export and earnings. It also allows substituting imports with equivalent Belarusian products. “Today the substitution of imported goods, services, and R&D products is of colossal importance because the creation of our own capabilities allows reducing dependence on imports and ruling out the import of some products. Unfortunately, in the modern world dependence on some products, technologies, and services is often exploited as a tool of economic and political pressure. Many of the laureates put efforts into creating such products,” Roman Golovchenko stated.

Apart from that, the prime minister remarked that science plays a large role in raising the quality of manufactured products. “The scientific and innovative direction of Belarus' development relies heavily on domestic R&D products, which are created in research institutions, including universities, which represent a key element of the country's innovative development. Science-oriented education of the youth can create a high potential that contributes to the stable development of the society and the economy,” the official stressed.

“Among today's laureates there are not only enterprises that have previously received the awards, which testifies to the stability and continuity in this work. There are many new laureates, which have earned these awards through persevering and purposeful labor,” Roman Golovchenko stressed.

The prime minister congratulated all the winners of the contest and wished them future successful work for the benefit of the country. He wished them to succeed in developing their enterprises, raising their effectiveness, and ensuring the quality of products and services.

In turn, Chairman of the State Standardization Committee of Belarus Valentin Tataritsky noted that the contest has been held for 22 years already. “It is an important tradition for the country. Today awards have been bestowed upon enterprises and managers with accomplishments in the sphere of quality. It is a versatile contest and is evaluated by experts from various branches of the production sector,” he said.

In his words, the world moves. World trends move forward, too, and encourage everyone to embrace new approaches, requirements for the management of enterprises, management systems and most importantly thinking. “Digital technologies intensively develop now. Yesterday we said that it takes years to present a new product on the market. Today we understand that in order to be competitive, we have to foresee what products consumers need and have to shorten its production timeframe as much as possible. These approaches are stipulated by the new program on organizing the government quality excellence contest. We intend to start realizing them in 2022 but this year there are already a number of enterprises, which want to become pilot projects in order to see how everything will be implemented and what effect it will produce,” the official said. “Today we are taking every measure to keep our economy operating steadily. We have to make competitive and innovative products, which ultimately sell well.”

Thirteen organizations became laureates of the contest, 22 organizations confirmed their previously received laureate titles. Two organizations became diploma winners. Another organization received a special social responsibility award.

The Quality Leader lapel pins were also presented today. Winners of the best quality manager contest and the best university student research paper in the area of management and quality control were awarded.
