MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) – Belarusian and Russian army units are practicing steps involved in enabling combat alert duty with dummy nuclear munitions, the press service of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.
In accordance with the agreements reached by the Belarusian Defense Ministry and the Russian one, units of the Belarusian army have begun carrying out training missions as part of the second stage of the exercise involving non-strategic nuclear forces.
Chief of the 12th Main Directorate of the Russian Defense Ministry, Lieutenant-General Igor Kolesnikov said that during this stage the joint training of combat units of the Belarusian army and Russian nuclear logistics units had been taken care of among other things. Mobile units of the 12th Main Directorate of the Russian Defense Ministry delivered dummy nuclear munitions to field storage facilities in the area where a missile brigade had been positioned and to an operational airfield used by attack aviation. Belarusian and Russian specialists prepped and issued missiles with special equipment and attached air-launched weapons to delivery aircraft.
In his words, matters of enabling combat alert duty with dummy nuclear munitions are being practiced now. After the exercise results of every training mission will be summarized and ways will be worked out to further improve training standards of the non-strategic nuclear forces for the sake of making sure the troops will carry out their orders in various scenarios of development of the military and political situation, Igor Kolesnikov added.
