Belarus to set up national technical committee for standardization in nuclear energy technology

MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) - Belarus is setting up a national technical committee for standardization in the field of nuclear energy technology, BelTA has learned from the press service of the State Committee for Standardization.

The Energy Ministry has tasked the State Production Association of the Electric Power Industry Belenergo with this work, aiming to advance standardization in the field of nuclear energy and to involve all interested stakeholders in this activity.

Improving the national standardization system, which ensures a unified approach to all stages of the nuclear facility lifecycle, is one of the fundamental prerequisites for guaranteeing the safety, reliability, and economic efficiency of the nuclear industry.

This topic is particularly relevant now, following the commissioning of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant with its two power units and the decision to construct a third unit.

The Technical Committee BY “Nuclear Energy Technology” shall participate in state, interstate, and international standardization efforts concerning safety in the use of nuclear energy; and to develop Belarusian state standards, technical codes of established practice, and interstate standards in the field of nuclear energy safety.

Furthermore, the objectives include facilitating the technical policies on standardization for safety in nuclear energy use and enhancing the efficiency of state, regional, and international standardization efforts in the field of nuclear energy safety.

Organizations wishing to join the Technical Committee BY “Nuclear Energy Technology” must submit relevant information, including details of their authorized representatives, to the State Production Association of the Electric Power Industry Belenergo by 16 January.
