MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) – The laws on the Belarusian People's Congress and civil society should be adopted this year, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko said at the opening of the eighth session of the House of Representatives of the seventh convocation on 15 March, BelTA has learned.
“The most important task is to start systematic work on bringing the current legislation in line with the new Constitution. We have two years to adjust about 100 laws, including 20 codes of the Republic of Belarus. It is essential for us to set clear priorities in our legislative activities and determine the schedule for their implementation. This year we need to adopt laws on the Belarusian People's Congress and civil society. These laws are complex, but due to their particular relevance, they must be prepared and submitted to the House of Representatives in the near future. MPs have certain know-how in this area, and its implementation should be accelerated. The greatest attention should be on the participation of MPs in the preparation of amendments to the laws on the president, the government, and the Election Code. It is also necessary to promptly adjust the fundamental legal documents, including the laws on the National Assembly, on the status of the MP of the House of Representatives, a member of the Council of the Republic, and also to make changes to the Regulation of the House of Representatives,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.

The speaker stressed that bringing the existing laws in line with the Constitution is only one part of the work on the transformation of legislation. “MPs should take a very active part in the preparation of the legal policy concept, which defines the strategy for improving the national legal system for the new period. Given the nature of the work ahead, the standing commissions need to ensure clear planning and close coordination of their actions with the Belarus President Administration, the government, and other stakeholders,” he said.
According to Vladimir Andreichenko, there is a large amount of work to do. “However, it should not affect the quality of the solution of our current tasks, consideration of the bills that are in the standing committees or will be submitted to the House of Representatives in accordance with the plan of their preparation for 2022,” he added.
