Belarus' Supreme Court, COE Secretariat discuss cooperation in judiciary reforms

MINSK, 18 April (BelTA) - The Supreme Court of Belarus and the Council of Europe Secretariat have spelled out cooperation in the field of judiciary reforms, the press service of the Belarusian Supreme Court told BelTA following a working meeting with the participation of First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court Valery Kalinkovich.

The parties are set to ensure systematic implementation of joint projects across the most pressing issues in the field of justice in 2019. Among them is the development of conceptual provisions to align procedural legislation governing consideration of civil and economic cases and also the preparation of a draft uniform Civil Procedural Code of Belarus. Other plans include the possibility of introducing the concept “a criminal misdemeanor” into the criminal legislation. Further improvement of court administration, introduction of e-justice are also on the agenda.

The parties outlined the forms of interaction and scheduled seminars, conferences, roundtables, and training courses for judges on these topics.

At the end of the meeting, the guests were taken on a tour around the new building of the Supreme Court.
