MINSK, 13 October (BelTA) - The export of medical services in Belarus has increased 1.5-fold over the past five years, Belarusian Healthcare Minister Aleksandr Khodzhayev said in an interview with STV TV channel, BelTA has learned.
“Over the last five years, the export of medical tourism and medical services has grown by one and a half times. We have now set a goal to achieve an annual growth of 5% to 10% in medical tourism. In this regard, our objective for this year is to reach $50 million in exports. This is a very significant figure, and based on the indicators for the first nine months, we feel we are approaching it,” the minister said.
The most in-demand specialties include transplantology, oncology, and CAR-T-cell therapy. There has also been a positive trend in the number of citizens arriving for treatment from Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia.
Aleksandr Khodzhayev also noted that, in addition to medical tourists, regular travelers also seek out medical help. Overall, in 2024, more than 160,000 foreigners from 159 countries have received medical services in Belarus.
Speaking about the development of medicine in the country, the minister particularly highlighted the high qualifications of Belarusian transplantologists. Significant results have also been achieved in obstetrics and gynecology. The system for providing care to mothers and children is highly effective. “These figures are recognized by our Western partners, if we are talking about the recognition of our medicine. We must say that in this aspect (in the field of motherhood and childhood) we currently have very good cooperation with CIS countries,” the minister added.
He cited the work with Uzbekistan as an example, where Belarusian specialists are helping to build a system in this area similar to the one in Belarus.
