Belarus second at 10th International Parliamentary Games

MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – A team of the National Assembly of Belarus won silver at the 10th International Parliamentary Games which were held in Moscow on 17-21 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus.

Belarusian MPs competed in six sports: chess, tennis, table tennis, billiards, badminton, and football. “The team of the National Assembly placed second in the overall standings. The Russian team won the games, Latvia was third,” the press service said.

Participants of the games also took part in a number of events, including a roundtable on public transport.

The International Parliamentary Games have been held since 2009 on the initiative of the Committee on Physical Culture and Sport of Russia's State Duma. Belarus regularly participates in the games and shows good results. In 2017 and 2018, the Belarusian team ranked second in the overall standings. This year's games brought together MPs, prominent politicians, and public figures from 13 countries. “This unique event is a novelty in interparliamentary relations. The games give politicians from various countries an opportunity to meet in an informal setting. The event helps MPs strengthen ties, exchange experience and promote sport and active lifestyle,” the press service of the House of Representatives noted.
