Belarus-Russia Union State to finance recuperation of over 2,000 children

MOSCOW, 29 August (BelTA) – In 2019, recuperation of over 2,000 children from regions of Belarus and Russia affected by the Chernobyl disaster will be financed from the budget of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, BelTA learned from the Union State Standing Committee.

Since 2002, the Standing Committee together with the National Center for Health Improvement and Sanatorium Treatment of the Population of Belarus and administrations of Russia's federal subjects has been implementing a program on organizing recuperation of children from regions of Belarus and Russia affected by the Chernobyl accident. “Recuperation facilities are selected on a competitive basis,” the Standing Committee noted. “In 2019, we have chosen three Belarusian and two Russian recuperation facilities. Over 2,000 children will recuperate in Belarus' Brest Oblast, Vitebsk Oblast, and Minsk Oblast, and Russia's Krasnodar Krai and Stavropol Krai.”

Apart from recuperation activities, all health resorts have prepared a cultural and education program, which also includes events dedicated to the Union State, for example, Union State Day. On 6 September the holiday will be celebrated in the children's recuperation center Zhemchuzhina in Belarus. “This children's recuperation center has won the contest and welcomed children from both Belarus and Russia under the Union State program several times,” the Standing Committee noted. “The program of Union State Day events is diverse and includes a lot of recreational activities and themed events. Representatives of the Standing Committee will also join the celebrations,” the committee added.
