Belarus remains coronavirus-free

MINSK, 25 February (BelTA) – No coronavirus cases have been reported in Belarus so far, Belarusian Healthcare Minister Vladimir Karanik told reporters on 25 February, BelTA has learned.

“The situation remains stable in Belarus. No coronavirus infections have been confirmed in Belarus. We are trying to get ahead of the virus. Updates are analyzed not even once a day, but several times a day,” the minister said.

Taking into consideration recent developments, Belarus applied enhanced border measures to flights coming from Italy where several cities were put under quarantine because of the virus. “Belarusians and foreign nationals who returned from China are under medical supervision. This measure will apply to those who will arrive from the northern regions of Italy,” Vladimir Karanik said.

He explained how Belarusian specialists carry out laboratory tests. “The World Health Organization provided the DNA of the virus to all interested parties. This allowed developing testing systems,” the minister informed. Belarusian health professionals use two types of tests – Belarus-made tests and tests provided by Russia. This enables double checks. “We have enough of laboratory tests. Their quality is checked by independent experts. We do not question the results,” the minister emphasized.
