Belarus raises over Br125,000 to help newborns with hearing problems

MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – More than Br125,000 was raised during the charity marathon held as part of the Our Children campaign. The funds will be used to develop early diagnostics of hearing impairments in newborns, Chairperson of the Belarusian Children’s Fund Lyudmila Kondrashova told BelTA.

“The marathon is an opportunity to take part in the destinies of thousands of little Belarusians. This year we will purchase innovative medical equipment for the National Scientific and Practical Center of Otorhinolaryngology. The total amount collected was Br125,770 – almost twice as much as we did last year, and this is very encouraging,” she said.

Lyudmila Kondrashova noted that about 2,700 transfers and more than 1,200 calls to a short number were registered during the marathon. “There were days when the phones rang 47 times, and thanks to our partners we achieved such significant results. I think we will agree on the timing of the equipment handover later,” she added.

The chairperson emphasized that for more than 35 years the Belarusian Children’s Fund has supported children in difficult and vulnerable life situations with love and care. “The Our Children campaign is not just a New Year’s tradition. It is our social partnership, our soul, our maternal care and paternal sense of duty toward those around us. Thanks to such partnership, within the framework of the campaign the Belarusian Children’s Fund will implement more than one project, because our partners are always by our side,” she noted.
