Belarus plans to vaccinate 5m people by year-end

MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – Plans are in place to vaccinate 5 million people in Belarus by the end of 2021. The move will help stop the epidemic, Belarus' Healthcare Minister Dmitry Pinevich told the media on 28 October, BelTA has learned.

“The analysis of the COVID-19 case rate inspires cautious optimism. The same was said by the head of state who has a complete analysis of the situation. The number of hospitalizations for pneumonia in all regions has decreased and the number of people who fall ill has also slightly decreased. But we should by no means feel complacent: treatment and rehabilitation are the main task for the healthcare system, but preventive measures are a joint effort by all people. Vaccination is the most important part, and it is great that we have more and more vaccinated people,” the minister said.

According to him, about 2.9 million Belarusians have already received at least one jab of the vaccine. “There are a million doses of the first component of various vaccines in circulation now, and we also plan to get another delivery. Thus, I assume that by the end of this year we will have some 5 million vaccinated people. This will help us to stop the epidemic. The Chinese vaccine is mainly used to vaccinate pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. It has been sent to the regions,” said Dmitry Pinevich.

The minister also that social distancing and mask wearing are also an element of protection.
