MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) – The “youngest” sectors of economic activity are IT, where youth account for 37% of the workforce, also hospitality and food service, Head of the Labor Statistics Directorate of the Belarus’ National Statistical Committee Irina Bondarenko said during a press conference in Minsk on 21 August, BelTA learned.
Every fourth employee in public administration, pharmaceutical manufacturing, science and trade is a young person, Irina Bondarenko stated.
According to Irina Bondarenko, the National Statistical Committee has a wide range of data on labor activity. “We compile both annual and current data. The situation on the labor market today demonstrates positive dynamics in the employed population growth. Thus, June 2025 saw a 0.4% year-on-year increase in the number of employed people that reached 4.15 million people,” she noted. “The unemployment rate in our country is one of the lowest in the world and has a downward trend. In the second quarter of 2025, it stood at 2.6%.”
The highest salaries are in the “young” IT sector and in the crude oil and natural gas extraction industry. The average monthly salary in these economic activities exceeds Br7,000.
