BERESTOVITSA DISTRICT, 17 November (BelTA) - Belarusian border guards have started allowing vehicles into the territory of the Berestovitsa border checkpoint (Bobrowniki on the Polish side), BelTA has learned.
Among the first to cross the Belarus-Poland border was Ivan Kudelko from Volkovysk. “I’m going to Bialystok to visit relatives. All this time I traveled to them much less often, and whenever I did, I had to make a detour through Brest. Now it will be easier,” he said.
Aleksandr, a bus driver from a Minsk company, noted that with the reopening of the checkpoints, crossing the border will become faster. “We used to wait at the Brest [border checkpoint] for two days. We hope that won’t happen anymore. Ticket prices will also be lower, since the route is shorter: before, there were an extra 400 kilometers to cover. It will be easier both for drivers and for passengers,” he emphasized.
As the State Border Committee of Belarus previously stated, the Belarusian side has not closed the checkpoints and is fully prepared for operations. All necessary preparatory measures have been completed. The committee noted that customs infrastructure at the border checkpoints with Poland has been upgraded and expanded, with technical equipment functioning normally.
According to an official notification from the Polish side, the closed checkpoints Kuznica Bialostocka and Bobrowniki will begin operating at 2:00 am on 17 November.
