Belarus' best books 2019 on display in Minsk

MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – The books, which received the awards of the Art of the Book national contest, will be on display in the National Library of Belarus until 18 April, BelTA has learned.

The Art of the Book national contest has been held in Belarus annually since 1960. It was founded by the Information Ministry of Belarus. The aim of the contest is to develop the Belarusian book art, to raise competitiveness and the artistic and printing standards. The exhibition showcases artistic achievements of publishers, artists, typographers during the past year.

Some 35 publishing houses with 180 publications participated in the contest. Less than half of them were shortlisted. The jury selected the winners in 16 categories: main, thematic, special and personal. The highest award was given to Denis Romanuk for “Belarus. Temple and Landscape” in the “Triumph” category. The winner's certificate in the category “For contribution to spiritual heritage” went to the National Library of Belarus for the facsimile edition “Brest Bible. 1563”.

The best illustrator award went to Vladimir Dovgialo for the illustrations for “Magic Ring”, the best designer award - to Vladimir Lukashik for Vasily Gigevich's “Island”, Ales Badak's “Farewell to Eternity” and the book series “Whatever has been written shall remain”. Andrey Shchukin received the best photo artist award for the photo shoot for “Belarusian Cuisine Taste”.

The National Library of Belarus invites everyone to see the best Belarusian publications 2019.
