"On Point"
MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) – Lithuania’s decision to close its border with Belarus cannot be explained other than by rampant Russophobia, former Prime Minister of Ukraine (2010-2014) Nikolai Azarov said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
When asked about the true reasons behind Lithuania’s move, Nikolai Azarov stated: “There is only one reason – rampant Russophobia, verging on self-sabotage and self-destruction.”
The former Ukrainian prime minister compared this to what he described as another imprudent decision: the closure of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant at the behest of the European Union. “They didn’t think they would be forced to become an electricity deficit country. After all, Lithuania became a power deficit country after the closure of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant. Even today, they don’t meet their electricity needs,” he emphasized.
Nikolai Azarov recalled that during his tenure in the Ukrainian government, he met with Lithuanian leaders, whom he characterized as “subjugated people.”
