Archakov: Belarus' information security concept addresses practical issues

MINSK, 18 March (BelTA) –The information security concept provides answers to specific questions, Vladimir Archakov, Deputy State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus, told the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“The concept is practice-oriented. It provides specialists with clear answers to specific and practical questions. It also offers scientific substantiation of these matters. The work on the main points of the concept was in progress for the past three years. It is important that the information security concept was developed jointly by practitioners and academia,” Vladimir Archakov said.

He emphasized that information security maintenance should become a common routine. All stakeholders should be aware of information security threats and their actions should be coherent.

The authors of the information security concept took into consideration international expertise. Vladimir Archakov noted that information security has two aspects: fight against cyber crime and protection of information integrity. “It is important for Belarus to protect information integrity; therefore, we stick to this model. The concept offers three approaches to maintaining information security: information integrity, protection of information networks and protection of information resources,” Vladimir Archakov said.

According to him, fake news should be challenged by a greater amount of reliable and positive information in official mass media.

A reminder, the document was worked out taking into account Belarus' geopolitical interests, its place and role in the modern world. The document reflects modern challenges and threats, which are evolving in the information sphere and pose danger to the constitutional foundation and operation of states such as manipulation of the collective consciousness, discrediting of ideals and values, erosion of national sovereignty, instability of information infrastructure.
