Analyst shares his observations on European Union’s defense capabilities

MINSK, 9 April (BelTA) - Economist and analyst Serghei Banari analyzed the capabilities of the European military-industrial complex in a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
Speaking about the militarization of the European Union, Serghei Banari noted: “It was NATO chief Mark Rutte (not us) who said that Russia is producing in three months in ammunition, what the whole of NATO, including the US, is producing in a year. Poland said it has enough ammunition to defend itself for a very little time.”

“Therefore, all this is nothing more than a financial pyramid scheme by Ursula von der Leyen, who, anticipating the collapse of the European Union, took part in the multi-billion corruption scheme during the COVID pandemic. Since everything worked out well last time, why not try the same scheme with transnational corporations? No one can take this idea of the EU military-industrial complex really seriously,” the analyst stated.

He explained that they don't have the critical materials, energy resources or an army for it. “They drown in swamps. Look at the Bundeswehr, look at the UK. They've got 25 Challengers that struggle to make a 40km march. The rest is a pile of metal. The Bundeswehr, thank God, was successfully destroyed by Ursula von der Leyen who was Minister of Defense at a time,” Serghei Banari noted. “As for the French army, look closely at what the French say. Look at mass dismissals from the Czech army. As soon as they started ratcheting up the rhetoric about a possible conflict with the Russian Federation, the dismissal of officers multiplied, because no one is willing to go to war with the Russians. Everybody remembers the last campaign. Everybody remembers how it ended. They already went there once not long ago. Great-grandfathers and great-grandmothers were witnesses.”

The analyst also pointed out that Germany has a problem with conscription: “Why are they talking about compulsory conscription? Because they have a problem with voluntary recruitment."
