MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – Based on the world events at the start of 2026, it looks like this year is going to be even more challenging than 2025, Ukrainian military expert Yuri Dudkin said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
When asked about what to expect from the current year, Yuri Dudkin noted: “In my view, 2026 will be even worse. We see how it began: with reckless actions by the U.S. leadership. This includes the abduction of the president of sovereign Venezuela and the further escalation of military pressure against that country. The second stage of actions against Venezuela has not been canceled. Right now they are only discussing the details of how to carry it out as quickly as possible.”

He went on saying: “The beginning of 2026 was also marked by the U.S. administration targeting Cuba, Nicaragua, and even Mexico. In Washington, there is talk of delivering specific strikes against Mexico, allegedly against drug cartels. By the way, with Maduro’s abduction, all the previous accusations of his involvement in drug trafficking disappeared. Everyone forgot about the cartels in Venezuela.”

“The start of 2026 was also notable for Colombia, Venezuela’s rival and at times adversary, falling under U.S. suspicion. These are precisely the states that supported Nicolás Maduro as the legitimate president of a sovereign country and condemned the actions of the United States,” Yuri Dudkin added

As the expert emphasized, the beginning of 2026 has also been a time of unrest in Iran: “The U.S. and Israel provoked ‘maidans’ in Iran. Looking at reports from Tehran and other major Iranian cities, everything is unfolding exactly as it did in Ukraine in 2014, starting with financing militants, supplying them with weapons, arson, and slogans. And the slogans are curious: the revival of the Shah’s regime. One wonders who today in Iran would be interested in resurrecting the corrupt regime of the late Mohammad Reza Pahlavi?”
