Aleinik: Belarus-Kazakhstan cooperation is multifaceted

MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – The cooperation between Belarus and Kazakhstan is multifaceted and multi-level, Chairman of the Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Sergei Aleinik told the media, BelTA has learned.

On 27 February Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Belarus Timur Zhaksylykov.

“We maintain friendly relations with Kazakhstan, our interaction has withstood the test of time. In the course of today’s meeting we reaffirmed that our cooperation is of strategic nature. It’s very versatile and multi-tiered, and excellent relations between the leaders serve as a good foundation for cooperation in all spheres without exception both on bilateral and multilateral bases,” Sergei Aleinik said. “Kazakhstan is among ten largest trade and economic partners of our country. And the potential of our trade and economic cooperation has not been exhausted yet. This is the aim of the cooperation roadmap that was signed last autumn during the official visit of the prime minister of Kazakhstan to our country.”

Quite a lot of Belarusian economic entities operate in Kazakhstan. “There are seven assembly factories and about 40 economic entities that are part of our commodity distribution network in the Kazakhstan market, whereas 55 Kazakhstan companies operate in the Belarusian market. This is the foundation for cooperation that can be further developed and deepened, we do have potential. Over the last five years our trade with Kazakhstan has not dropped below a billion, and our trade in goods and services over the previous year exceeded $1.5 billion,” the parliamentarian noted.

“During the meeting we have paid great attention to inter-regional cooperation. At the moment, 30 inter-regional agreements have been signed with Kazakhstan, and several more documents are in development,” Sergei Aleinik stated. “We have agreed to consider holding the Belarus-Kazakhstan forum of regions, which, in our opinion, can significantly contribute to the increase in trade, humanitarian ties and cooperation in many other spheres.”
