About 1,000 military taking part in Belarus-Russia tactical maneuvers near Brest

BREST, 16 April (BelTA) – The scheduled Belarus-Russia bilateral battalion tactical maneuvers with live fire solemnly kicked off on the Brestsky firing ground on 15 April, BelTA has learned.

Taking part in the Belarus-Russia tactical exercise are the parachute battalion of the 103rd Separate Guards Airborne Brigade enhanced by the parachute regiment of the 106th Guards Tula Airborne Division, as well as the air assault battalion of the 38th Guards Air Assault Brigade – a total of about 1,000 military personnel. Over 100 units of military equipment were used, including various types of armored vehicles, cars, light air defense artillery, and gun-howitzers. All the military equipment was provided by the Belarusian side.

A welcoming address to the participants of the tactical maneuvers was delivered by Deputy Commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Belarus, Colonel Vladimir Bely. He praised the high level of field training and the high level of command. “The number one task is to maintain the existing level of cooperation between our forces,” he said. He wished the paratroopers to show the best of what they can during the exercise.

The active phase of the exercise is scheduled for 16-18 April.

This is the second joint drill of Belarusian and Russian assault-landing forces this year. A month ago, the Belarusian military returned from Ulyanovsk where they drilled their peacekeeping skills. This year special operations forces are to take part in the joint Union Shield 2019 exercise. For another drill that is due on the Brestsky firing ground in October, the Russian side will dispatch a battalion and its own equipment and weapons.
