Putin describes results of trade, economic cooperation with Belarus as outstanding

VOLGOGRAD, 29 April (BelTA) – Results of Belarus-Russia trade and economic cooperation are outstanding. President of Russia Vladimir Putin made the statement during negotiations with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko in the Russian city of Volgograd on 29 April, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Putin said: “We have an opportunity to come to an agreement on current affairs. We have a great deal of them. Suffice it to say that in the sphere of trade and economic relations alone we have simply outstanding results: the trade turnover has exceeded $50 billion. The figure is even larger according to your statistics.”

The Russian leader also mentioned the need to discuss further development and expansion of manufacturing cooperation between the two countries, including through joint work in aircraft manufacturing, the creation of unmanned aerial vehicles. “I’d like to tell you what proposals are available. We are already ready to found a factory together with your specialists in addition to a corresponding lab on unmanned flying. It is very important primarily for economy and logistics. We have agreements on aircraft production. You have managed to preserve part of the aviation industry. There are a lot of things that need doing, too. Including a little aircraft and manufacturing cooperation on medium-range aircraft. We will also talk about other cooperation avenues. The governments work on these matters all the time. We are aware of what the colleagues come to terms on,” Vladimir Putin stated.

Aleksandr Lukashenko agreed that a good tradition had been established to discuss the relevant matters in order to spur the work of the governments and set some trend in bilateral relations in addition to facilitating the resolution of various issues. “I thank you for frequent phone calls to discuss urgent matters. We truly have common understanding of the entire process of development. Our agenda of international relations is absolutely similar. We don’t hide it. We don’t try to spin things,” the Belarusian leader added.
