New Belarus' State Control Committee chairman appointed

MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – Vasily Gerasimov has been appointed Chairman of the State Control Committee of Belarus. The corresponding personnel decision was made by Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 26 January, BelTA has learned.

Since September 2020 Vasily Gerasimov has been acting chairman of the committee. Before that he was First Deputy Chairman of the State Control Committee.

Vasily Gerasimov was born in 1975 in Minsk.

He graduated from the Belarusian State University in 1997 and the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus in 2014.

In 1997 he started his career as a chief specialist of the legislation section of the legislation and international relations department of the Supreme Economic Court of the Republic of Belarus. In 1999 he was appointed head of the section, in 2000 - head of the department for maintenance of supervision and generalization of the judicial practice of the Supreme Economic Court of the Republic of Belarus.

From 2003 to 2012 he led the main expert legal department of the State Control Committee. From 2012 to 2016 he was Chairman of the State Control Committee of Grodno Oblast.

In 2016 he was appointed Belarus President's Aide - Chief Inspector for Brest Oblast. In 2017 he became Belarus President's Aide - Inspector for Brest Oblast.

Since September 2018, he served as Deputy Chairman of the State Control Committee. Since June 2019 he was First Deputy Chairman of the State Control Committee. On 3 September 2020, he was appointed Acting Chairman of the State Control Committee.

Vasily Gerasimov has been awarded the Medal for Labor Services and the Order of Honor.
