Lukashenko, Van der Bellen meet in Vienna

VIENNA, 12 November (BelTA) - A meeting between Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen is taking place in Vienna, BelTA has learned.

The Austrian leader welcomed the Belarusian head of state in the courtyard of the Hofburg Palace, the official seat of the Austrian Federal President.

The meeting was preceded by an official welcome ceremony which included an honor guard, the playing of the national anthems, introduction of members of official delegations and a handshake photo-op.

The two leaders are set to discuss the ways to further cooperation in trade, economy, investment and humanitarian affairs. The parties will also focus on political matters: the situation in the region and worldwide, Belarus' cooperation with the European Union, including within the Eastern Partnership format, and also environment protection issues.

Aleksandr Lukashenko arrived in Austria on 11 November. Upon the arrival, the Belarusian head of state laid a wreath at Soviet War Memorial. The ceremony was attended by members of Belarus' official delegation, representatives of the general public and also CIS ambassadors to Austria. The head of state greeted each diplomat in person.
