Lukashenko urges to complete winter crop planting in Belarus soon

MINSK, 27 September (BelTA) – During his working trip to Shklov District, Mogilev Oblast, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko gave instructions to complete planting work by 3 October in the south of Belarus and by 1 October in the rest of the country, BelTA has learned.
“We need to finish it in the south, in Gomel Oblast and Brest Oblast, by 3 October. Everything must be completed by 1 October in the rest of the country. Everything must be done top-notch, as it should be,” the president instructed.
The head of state was briefed about the autumn field work in Shklov District, Mogilev Oblast, and the country in general. The president also asked about the progress of potato, sugar beet and flax harvesting.

The corn harvest in the country was another key topic. The head of state heard a report on agricultural work directly in a cornfield. According to Belarusian Minister of Agriculture and Food Yuri Gorlov, corn has been planted on some 1.3 million hectares, with the most of it being harvested for silage.
Aleksandr Lukashenko asked about the prospects for corn harvest. Yuri Gorlov reported that corn harvest is planned at about 2.2 million tonnes.

“So, 2.2 million is the minimum we can get?” the president asked. |You need to get 2.2-2.5 million tonnes of corn. We will crimp and dry it. The rest will go for silage.”

The minister confirmed that after the necessary processing, this corn will be used as feed for cattle, pigs, and also poultry. “Overall, we set our sights on 3 million tonnes of corn grain,” Yuri Gorlov noted.

“So, with proper technology, we can easily reach 3 million tons. That's the goal we should aim for. Consider it a goal you've set for yourself for the future,” the president said.
