Lukashenko urges Grodno Oblast to complete planting by 1 October

ZHIROVICHI, 19 September (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has instructed Grodno Oblast to complete the autumn planting campaign by 1 October during his working trip to Slonim District, BelTA has learned.

“I am surprised (the deadlines have been pushed back, of course) to see straw all over the fields. Even on the land designated for grass,” he said addressing Grodno Oblast Governor Yuri Karayev.

The head of state responded to promises that the straw would be taken away with continued criticism: “We will remove it, but now there are strips of bare soil where the grass has not even sprouted. The straw must be cleared. If we do not remove it, we cannot do anything on that field.”

Then Aleksandr Lukashenko asked about the progress in grain planting.

Yuri Karayev informed that, as of now, planting has been completed on 30% of the area, with 8,000 hectares left to cover in each district of Grodno Oblast. “We have doubled the pace in the last two days, now achieving 500 hectares per day in every district,” he stated.

“You must plant everything by 1 October. There is no point in delaying the planting campaign any longer. You must do it. But if you do not remove the straw, you will not be able to plant any crops,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
