MINSK, 14 February (BelTA) - The Ukrainian government's policy against Belarus defies all reason, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Ukrainian politician and statesman Alexander Moroz in Minsk on 14 February, BelTA has learned.
"What the Ukrainian authorities are doing in respect of Belarus defies any reason," Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
The president noted that Ukraine has decided not to buy Belarusian potash fertilizers and asked the United States to help replace this product. But the U.S. refused to help because they mostly buy potash from Canada. "They asked America to buy it! Imagine the price: to produce, to process, to load, to transport by rail, to unload in ports, to transport them across thousands of kilometers, and again to transship, to transport by rail and deliver them to farmers... It will be much more expensive. Why are they doing this?" the head of state expressed his bewilderment.
Belarus is ready to lend a helping hand to Ukraine, as always, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted. Recently, for example, Belarus has helped Ukraine with electricity at the country's request.
“Why did they need to close their airspace for our aircraft? We can fly around, of course. What will they do if we reach an agreement with Russia and Russia closes its airspace for aircraft coming from Ukraine – for both Ukrainian and foreign ones? What will they do if Russia allows entry to the country through Belarus only? Their actions are brainless. They have been following in the footsteps of Lithuania. But we know that Lithuanians lost their marbles long ago. But why is Ukraine doing this? Why did they need to destroy everything?” the president said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said that in previous years he had made many efforts to organize a dialogue between Ukraine and Russia and resolve the conflict. “We agreed on many things then. Poroshenko was involved in these agreements too. Then the United States commanded against the agreements and he moved away from these things. There would have been peace in the Donbass today. Putin had promised money to restore Donbass. People would have lived in peace. What kind of policy is that?” the president asked.
“You understand very well that this is not the policy of Ukraine. This is someone else's policy,” Alexander Moroz said.
“This is what I am talking about,” the head of state replied.
