MINSK, 16 January (BelTA) - The new National History Museum will show that Belarusians are a nation with a deep history, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he talked with representatives of labor collectives of the Minsk City Technopark on 16 January, BelTA learned.

According to the head of state, the idea to build a new museum dedicated to the history of Belarus was to show the young generation where their roots come from, in a way interesting for young people. By analogy with the Minsk International Exhibition Center which is now hosting an exhibition celebrating achievements of sovereign Belarus, which is very popular among Minsk citizens and guests of the capital.

The museum will be built in the park opposite the Palace of Independence, not far from the Supreme Court building. As the president emphasized, it will be a large-scale facility “to instill pride in people for living in our country,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“There was nothing around us but forests. Our people started to build their statehood here [on the Belarusian lands] with the principalities of Turov, Polotsk… We will show that we are not some backwater of a country but a nation who remembers its roots and kinship, who has a deep history,” the president emphasized.
