Lukashenko: It is hard for youth to size up what has been done in Belarus

MINSK, 9 September (BelTA) – The young generation of Belarusians who have grown up in a peaceful country and have not faced real difficulties yet, can hardly make the right assessment of what has been done in Belarus over the years of independence, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he gave an interview to Russia's leading mass media, BelTA has learned.

“As they say, especially in Ukraine, Belarusians have not experienced a real trouble yet. When they do, they will know what misfortune is all about. I would not want my country and my people to go through it. However, when I am alone I start thinking: maybe, today's generation of Belarusians should go through something to be able to understand the system they are living in and to size up and appreciate what has been done. They have nothing to compare it with… Indeed, there is Ukraine, some other countries. But it all seems so faraway, not here,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

However, the journalists noted that not only young people, but also representatives of the elder generation take part in protests, and these people have always been considered the support base of the president.

“Pay attention: the support I received at the recent election was no weaker than in the previous elections, however, this election was followed by an uproar. Earlier they accepted the election results, no one induced these people. This time they were induced,” Aleksandr Lukashenko responded.

The head of state did not hide his personal emotions regarding the post-election developments. “My mood? What kind of mood will I have? Naturally, I was somewhat disappointed and frustrated by this. Nevertheless, being an experienced person, I calmed myself down and told myself not to worry about it. Indeed, there are people among workers who do not share my position, who might want to see another president tomorrow. I am trying to take it easy. However, how can you take it easy when it is your child, you raised and nurtured him and was a father for him? Indeed, it is no picnic,” the president said.
