Lukashenko congratulates Belarusian wrestlers on medals at European championships

MINSK, 17 February (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has congratulated the national Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling team on a strong performance at the 2020 UWW European Wrestling Championships in Rome, Italy, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The head of state expressed gratitude to gold medalists Vanesa Kaladzinskaya, Maksim Nehoda, and Magomedkhabib Kadimagomedov. “Let your great victories and also one silver and four bronze medals of your teammates will add confidence to you ahead of the Olympic qualifiers,” the message of greetings reads.

Aleksandr Lukashenko wished the athletes and coaches of the team strong health and outstanding victories.

Belarus won eight (three gold, one silver and four bronze) medals at the 2020 UWW European Wrestling Championships in Rome, Italy. On the final competition day Belarus' wrestler Rasul Tsikhayeu clinched bronze in the 86kg event. The third place on the podium was occupied by his teammate Amarhajy Mahamedau (92kg).

Earlier, Maksim Hehoda (63kg), Magomedkhabib Kadimagomedov (79kg) and Vanesa Kaladzinskaya (53kg) won gold medals. Kseniya Stankevich (50kg) and Iryna Kurachkina (57kg) clinched bronze. Silver was taken by Nyurgun Srkyabin (65kg).
