Lukashenko comments on number of signatures collected in support of his nomination

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) - More than 1.5 million signatures have already been collected for the nomination of incumbent President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko for the upcoming presidential election in January 2025. This information was voiced at a meeting of the head of state with the head and coordinators of the his initiative group on 21 November, BelTA has learned.

“I am very grateful to all of you, coordinators and the teams set up within the initiative group. I know that you are doing everything very carefully, sparing no effort. You don't force anyone. That is the right thing to do. It is right because we don't need it. We don't need it at all. To avoid unnecessary questions later, we have to act very carefully here,” the president said.

“The number of signatures collected shows that you have carried out tremendous work. I didn't even expect it to be like this,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

He asked the members of the initiative group to decide for themselves how to act further. “We should not overload members of the initiative group, we do not want them to overexert themselves. We do not ask them to canvass frantically from house to house touting something, we do not want excessive signature collection points. A sufficient number has already been collected,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.

According to the head of the initiative group, Chairman of the Federation of the Trade Unions of Belarus Yuri Senko, more than 1.5 million signatures have already been collected in support of the nomination of the incumbent president in the upcoming election.
