Lukashenko: Belarus will carve out its interests in the face of dishonest competition

MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – Work on import substitution has been in progress in Belarus for several years and import substitution is turning into import independence. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement in his address to the nation and the parliament on 18 December, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “We have never endeavored to make absolutely everything in Belarus. But in the areas where we have local raw materials, scientific accomplishments and schools, we will literally carve out our interests in the face of the most complicated competition that is not always honest. Absolutely dishonest competition.”

He remarked that Belarus had built a nuclear power plant of its own. It allowed nearly doubling the country’s energy self-sufficiency, offering Europe’s most competitive tariffs to industrial enterprises and exploring new areas: electric heating for housing, electric transport, energy accumulators, cryptocurrency mining and trading.

“We make our own computers and monitors. We have successfully mastered new mechanical engineering products: from powerful tractors to unmanned BelAZ trucks. We have launched car manufacturing in the country virtually from scratch and now offer product series to match every taste. Hundreds of thousands of Belarus-made vehicles have been sold on the common market of the Union State [of Belarus and Russia]. Some models top the sales charts,” the head of state recounted a series of accomplishments.
The number includes a new bus factory of the Belarusian automobile manufacturer MAZ. The enterprise is ready to make up to 3,000 comfortable vehicles with modern designs every year.

“On the basis of modern technologies we have increased domestic oil extraction. By stepping up the processing of crude oil resources, we have started manufacturing oil coke and other kinds of oil products,” the president said.

As more examples Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that medications for cancer patients, amino acids, and innovative bioproducts are made in Belarus.
The food industry has commissioned facilities to make a number of products ranging from unique baby formulas, extremely popular lactose-free dairy products to elite cheeses and meat delicacies.

“All of it is the result of massive work all the Belarusians have done for many years: from rural workers to scientists. Your work and mine,” the Belarusian leader stressed.
