
MINSK, 31 August (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko is taking part in a gala reception for the heads of delegations at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian head of state was greeted by Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan.
The event is taking place at the Meijiang Convention and Exhibition Center in Tianjin.
A reminder: over three dozen national leaders and heads of international organizations are participating in the SCO summit. China, as the current chair, has invited some to attend the summit in the SCO Plus format.
For Belarus, this meeting marks its first summit as a full-fledged member, a status it attained just over a year ago. It now joins the ranks of the SCO’s ten member states: India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Following the arrival of the distinguished guests, a joint photo ceremony was held. For the occasion, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko was flanked by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
