Forthcoming years to determine long-term prospects of Belarus-Poland relations

MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – Forthcoming years will determine the long-term prospects of Belarus-Poland relations. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement as he appointed Vladimir Chushev new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Poland on 12 February, BelTA has learned.

The head of state told Vladimir Chushev that he expected the diplomat to be aware of peculiarities of Belarus-Poland relations. “I cannot say there are no problems. There is a fair share of them. But all of them can be solved. It is necessary to accomplish that by all means because the forthcoming years will play a crucial role in Belarus-Poland relations in the long term,” Alexander Lukashenko stressed.

The head of state encouraged the new ambassador to make the Polish side keep in mind Belarus' national interests. “They are not strangers for us,” Alexander Lukashenko reminded. He noted that there is an understanding between Belarusians and Poles. “They shouldn't expect any threats from us. Yet it doesn't mean we will stay calm if they brandish their weapons. Including taking into account our joint Belarusian-Russian army group in this direction,” the president said.
