Belarusian power vertical urged to work harder ahead of elections

BARANOVICHI, 22 March (BelTA) – The executive power vertical should work harder in the run-up to the elections. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement as he met with senior administration officials of the city of Baranovichi and Baranovichi District on 22 March, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko said: “We should try to win the trust of the people. Even more so in the two years ahead of the exam we are going to take. We should not offend people in the slightest yet we cannot pull wool over their eyes either. We should make something, which will stay forever.”

Nobody is trying to hide the fact that in the next two years – in the run-up to the presidential election and the parliamentary elections – hard work will have to be done, added Alexander Lukashenko. “But we are going to work in a manner that will last past the election campaign. We don't want people to reproach us that we do something on the eve of some political events, primarily elections in order to make their lives sweeter only to forget about them afterwards. It has never happened and never will! We have a different kind of policy,” the head of state stated.

The head of state went on saying that such meetings with top officials of regional administrations will become a tradition. “We are going to pay serious attention to the development of districts, towns, and cities. Primarily due to the need to ensure the even distribution of productive forces across the country,” he said.
