Belarus to get second $500m tranche of Russian loan in June

MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) – Russia intends to transfer the loan's second tranche as large as $500 million to Belarus in June. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the relevant statement during the government conference held in the Palace of Independence on 1 June to discuss cooperation with Russia, BelTA has learned.

The head of state remarked that he did not even raise the matter of the second tranche of the loan during his meeting with President of Russia Vladimir Putin in Sochi, Vladimir Putin did at the end of the meeting. “When we were saying goodbyes, the Russian president told me on the way: I have to remind you that you will get the second tranche of the previously negotiated $1 billion loan literally in June,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The agreement on Russia lending $1 billion to Belarus was signed in December 2020. Belarus received the first tranche of the loan the same month.
