MINSK, 5 March (BelTA) – In an interview with U.S. blogger Mario Nawfal, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said why neither Russian President Vladimir Putin nor US President Donald Trump are ready for the nuclear war, BelTA has learned.
“I don’t think that Putin was in a situation where he had to consider pressing the red button. We didn’t discuss this issue directly, but we saw where it was all going. Putin never said that he was ready to take extreme steps. I don’t think he was ready. He was as close to pressing the red button as you were in the United States of America, England or France. I know you weren’t ready for that. The same about Putin,” the head of state said.
According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, Putin believes that there are no major reasons today for unleashing a nuclear war. “He understands better than anyone what this could lead to. Therefore, you can take my word for it, Putin never took the remote control to press this red button. If only aggression is committed against Belarus and Russia, then all methods of response will be used,” the president remarked.
Even if aggressed, Belarus and Russia will not necessarily use nuclear weapons immediately. “There are many other methods, including diplomatic ones or the use of conventional weapons and so on. Oreshnik, for example, and many more. No one is going to press the nuclear button. These weapons are for the situations of extreme threat. That is exactly what the USA will do in such a situation,” the Belarusian leader noted.
