MINSK, 16 July (BelTA) – Venezuela will speed up work to finalize a cooperation agreement with the Belarusian parliament, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergei Lukashevich said, BelTA has learned.
According to the first deputy minister, the working trip to Venezuela of the Belarusian government delegation was very busy and interesting. Negotiations were held in open and closed formats. Although Venezuelan counterparts were busy getting ready for the upcoming elections, they found time to meet with the Belarusian delegation.
“A number of interesting topics were raised at the meeting with Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez. We discussed ungrounded sanctions against our countries, exchanged views and shared approaches to dealing with this situation. We also had a fruitful meeting with President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro. Roman Golovchenko fulfilled two tasks set by our head of state. First, the prime minister gave a strong handshake on behalf of the president of Belarus and wished Nicolas Maduro victory in the upcoming elections. Second, he asked to consider revitalizing bilateral cooperation to return it to what it was under Hugo Chávez after the end of the elections,” said Sergei Lukashevich. According to the diplomat, Nicolas Maduro noted that he had always wanted Venezuela to emulate Belarus' successes. “Such a statement was truly heart-warming. Our friendship grows stronger from this,” he added.
Sergei Lukashevich emphasized that the prime minister met with a number of Venezuelan ministers. “The interaction agenda is huge. We talked about tractors, trucks, construction and other things that Venezuela needs. We looked at various options. We will be moving step by step. We hope our trade will grow,” the first deputy minister remarked.
One of the meetings was held at the National Assembly of Venezuela. “Venezuelan parliamentarians maintain good relations with Belarusian counterparts. They came to us for elections, and now it’s our parliamentarians’ turn. At the request of Roman Golovchenko, the Venezuelan parliament will fast-track the work on a cooperation agreement between the two parliaments. I would like to note that Venezuelan colleagues showed interest in all topics we raised during our visit,” Sergei Lukashevich remarked.
