Union State PA’s plan of action for 2026 approved

MOSCOW, 9 December (BelTA) - The Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia approved a plan of action for 2026 at a session in Moscow on 9 December, BelTA has learned.

According to the document, the Parliamentary Assembly will retain its primary operational formats and will hold sessions, council meetings, and commission meetings. Parliamentary hearings will take place, along with meetings of the permanent seminar under the Parliamentary Assembly on issues of Union State development, and also sessions of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Parliamentary Assembly and other events. Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly will attend meetings of the Supreme State Council of the Union State, the Council of Ministers, and the High-Level Group of the Council of Ministers of the Union State.

The plan assigns a special role to the second Union State forum “Great Heritage, Shared Future” which in 2026 will mark the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Upon the proposal of Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko, the forum will be held in Brest, and a regular session of the Parliamentary Assembly will be convened to coincide with it.

It is planned that the Parliamentary Assembly will place special emphasis on youth engagement, particularly patriotic education. In the coming year, Union State MPs will participate in events organized by the Youth Chamber under the Parliamentary Assembly, the festivals Creativity of the Youth and Youth for the Union State, Union State Days during traditional summer patriotic sessions at the children's recreational centers Orlyonok and Zubryonok and also within the framework of the “Historical-Legal Session: The Future of Law and Order” event involving children from families of internal affairs personnel. MPs will hold meetings with participants of the Union State spartakiad for children and youth and the Union State students' tourism gathering.

The plan of action includes a substantial section dedicated to social issues. Specifically, in 2026, it envisions support for Union State initiatives such as: “Treatment of citizens of Belarus and Russia using proton therapy”, “Providing comprehensive medical care to specific categories of citizens of Belarus and Russia affected by radiation in the wake of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster” and “Organizing sanatorium-resort treatment for veterans and disabled persons of the Great Patriotic War and combat operations.”

All events of the Parliamentary Assembly outlined in the plan of action for 2026 will be aimed at implementing the provisions of the Union State Treaty.
